Criminal Minds: Evolution season 2 is welcoming back the FBI Behavioral Analysis Unit (BAU) and, series original Derek Morgan, portrayed by Shemar Moore, is expected to be part of the action. Despite a lack of confirmation, fans are hopeful for the return of Matthew Gray Gubler and Daniel Henney, who played Dr. Spencer Reid and SSA Matt Simmons. Moore, a key part of BAU's operations, was notable for his strong co-worker relationships. When Moore left in season 11, the show had to write his character out. However, the potential for his return remained. After CBS reversed SWAT's cancellation, renewing it for a final year, possibilities for Moore's return to the Criminal Minds franchise increased. The show's unexpected delay, due to the 2023 Writers Guild Strike, could allow Moore to guest star. The BAU is short-staffed in season 1 after Reid and Simmons’ separation from the team. The much-anticipated reunion between Reid and Morgan is eagerly awaited along with the return of more seasoned personnel.
